My name is Carol West. After obtaining my undergraduate degree at Graceland University, I have taught for
seven years as an elementary physical education specialist. Recently I entered the CWU Health, Human Performance,
and Recreation Master's program in continuation of my educational journey. As a health and fitness instructor, I understand
the improtance of teaching healthy life-style choices. Kids often think about activity as the only aspect of health.
In my classroom they quicky learn about the five components of fitness, personal safety, nutrition, dental care, muscular
and skeletal wellness, and proper hygiene.
We need to invest in the health of our nation's future and the new classroom based health and fitness assessments will
facilitate this dramatic change in focus. Although skills acquisition and team sports will not be forgotten, life-long
health will drive instruction.
